Plot
The Gokaigers are a group of young pirates who uses the powers of the 34 previous Super Sentai teams to fight the evil Zangyack, whose first wave of invasion forces were completely defeated by the previous 34 teams until they arrive with reinforcements and invade the Earth once more, and they must visit the past 34 teams to obtain more power to fight against the ever-determined Zangyack.
Characters
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
The space pirates. Their special ability is using the powers of the previous 34 Super Sentai team members.
- Played by Ozawa Ryouta
- A former member of the Akaki Pirates. Marvelous' goal is to find the Greatest Treasure in the Universe with his crew, the Gokaigers.
- Bounty: 1.5 million zagins (Start), 3 million zagins (eps. 5), 5 million zagins (eps. 15), Unlimited Reward (eps. 39)
- Played by Yamada Yuuki
- A man of few words. Joe's specialty is two-handed sword techniques.
- Bounty: 1 million zagins (Start), 2 million zagins (eps. 5), 4 million zagins (eps. 15), 8 million zagins (eps. 39)
- According to writer Arakawa Naruhisa, Joe's personality is based on the director of the Chunichi Dragons, Takagi Morimichi. Also, his name was originally going to be Ken Gibujo, which is based on the name of Takagi's alma mata, Ken Gifushou.
- Played by Ichimichi Mao
- The tomboyish lady thief. Her special technique is to attack with blades on strings.
- Bounty: 300,000 zagins (Start),750,000 zagins (eps. 5), 1.5 million zagins (eps. 15), 3 million zagins (eps. 39)
- Comes from an impoverished planet. Had a little sister named Ria.
- Played by Shimizu Kazuki
- Everyone address's Don as "Doc/Hakase" ハカセ. The only exception is Gai who calls him "Don-san". The mechanic/chef of the crew. He became a refugee after Zangyack destroyed his home planet. His catchphrase is "Now's my chance!"
- Bounty: 100 zagins (Start), 1000 zagins (eps. 5), 5000 zagins (eps. 15), 50,000 zagins (eps. 39)
- Played by Koike Yui
- Former princess of the Famille Planet. Speaks in an extremely high class, polite fashion. Addresses everyone with -san.
- Bounty: 500,000 zagins (Start), 1 million zagins (eps. 5), 2 million zagins (eps. 15), 4 million zagins (eps. 39)
- Played by Ikeda Junya
- The kari 狩 in his name means "to hunt". Gai 鎧 means "armor".
- The only member in the group who's from Earth. Gai is a Sentai otaku. After having a near-death experience saving a girl, Gai receives three Grand Powers and the GokaiCellular from AbareKiller, TimeFire, and DragonRanger. These three being connected by a dinosaur theme, and also being Sentai members who have died.
- His catchphrase is "Gingin iku ze ギンギンに行くぜ!" which means to do things "enthusiastically". It's basically a pun on gin/silver.
- Apparently Gai has the ability to redefine reality, as he can combine Sentai characters (Go-On Wings, a combination of Go-On Gold and Go-On Silver).
Navi
Voiced by Tamura Yukari
- A robotic parrot who has the ability to give prophecies that act as hints for finding Grand Powers. When he does his prophecies, he says "Let's Treasure Navigate!" Since he uses "oira" to address himself, it's likely that Navi is male.
- A reoccurring gag in the show is Marvelous addressing Navi as tori/bird.
Space Empire Zangyack
The evil empire that rules the whole universe. Their first attack on Earth was known as the Great Legend War. The attack on Earth in the Gokaiger series is actually the second, smaller fleet. At the head of this attack is the mothership, Gigant Horse, headed by the son of the emperor, Waruzu Giru.
Waruzu Giru The commander of the fleet.
- Played off as the spoiled, ineffectual son of the emperor. He sees the Earth campaign as a chance to prove himself.
- Name is an altered form of Japanese "waru sugiru" meaning "much too evil".
Damarasu Chief-of-staff
- The most competent, strongest member of the staff, thus he doesn't do anything or directly even appear before the Gokaigers until his last few episodes.
Insaan Technical officer in charge of development
- The mad scientist of the group, she creates the gun that makes the monster grow.
Barizorg Special duties officer, Waruzu's loyal follower
- The brainwashed, cyborg of Joe's friend, Sid. He serves as the bodyguard of Waruzu and says very little, mostly "Yes boss."
Basco
- Played by Hosogai Kei
The combatants
- Action Commanders - The monsters of the week.
Apparently named after the Japanese word for garbage, gomi. In the first episode, a group of them are tossed into a dump truck by the Gokaigers.
- Sugoumin 下士官スゴーミン - A step up from the Goumin. Their official rank is "non-commissioned officer". The giant versions can transform into vehicles. Their name is based on "sugoi" or "awesome".
- Dogoumin 親衛隊ドゴーミン - The elite guards for the emperor. Red in color like the Emperor's elite guard from Star Wars. The "do" here creates emphasis, like when Marvelous says "dohade" instead of just "hade".
Guest stars
Sid - Shindou Gaku

Trivia
- The first Sentai TV series to be released on Blu-Ray.
- The text on the newspaper that the Gokaigers read (which has their wanted pictures on them) is lifted from Wikipedia's page on "wanted posters". This is similar to how the text in the background of the Go-Busters' opening is from Wikipedia too.
