  • Birthdate June 11, 1992 (Heisei Year 4)

  • Father's name is Shinji 真治 (45 years old)
  • Mother's name is Sayuri 紗由里 (40 years old)
  • Both parents are reported as missing.
  • Has a younger twin sister named Mayu who has been out of the country. Misa wears her hair long while Mayu keeps them in twin tails.

Trivia

  • The study-abroad brochure that Mayu is reading is prophetic. It says that traveling will cause one to change and to grab the chance while one can. Both these apply to the numerous life changing things that happens while she's abroad and to her later choice to become a mage.
    • In the flashback, Mayu said that she's worried about being separated from everyone. Misa then replies that it'll be okay and that they'll always be together. She also tells Mayu that it's a precious chance and that she can't give up.
  • The flashback to the day of the eclipse is more proof that Misa's birthday is a mistake. Her character is 16-17 since she died within the last year.
  • Apparently, Phantoms isn't a genetic quality. When Mayu started to give into despair, her form looked completely different from Medusa's. And Medusa wouldn't have killed her parents if they were Gates, since Wiseman would get mad at her.
  • Misa wore her hair in a pony tail. Mayu wears her hair in twin tails. This kind of thing happens a lot in Japan. The first child will often have a "one" in their name like kazu or ichi while the second child will have a "two" in their name like "ni" or "ji".
  • Probably a coincidence but Misa, Sayuri (Mayu's mother) and Sayuri's actress Arisa all have Sa/紗 in their names. Sa means gauze, gossamer.
  • Nitou continues using his "It's breakfast time" line.
  • Apparently, the white mage can detect the birth of mages or was watching the incident with Mayu, since he appears right after she overcomes her despair.
    • The white mage's Kerberos is even seen following Mayu before she meets with Medusa, which means the white mage may have been watching the entire ordeal.
  • Even though this is the first time we've seen Misa in the past, she's in the opening sequence since it started in episode 2. She's wearing the same uniform that she does in this episode Screenshot.
    • In episode 2's flashback scene, Misa is seen transforming into Medusa behind Haruto. There's also a shot of Yuugo transforming into Phoenix (the silhouette of Phoenix's shoulder pads stand out) as well as a front shot of Lizardman who later attacks Haruto. Misa screenshot, Yuugo screenshot, Lizardman screenshot.
  • Ignoring the kanji, Mayu is the Japanese word for "cocoon".
  • The full Japanese title is actually "Older Sister and Younger Sister" but this was too unwieldy, so it was simplified to "Sisters" in the translation.
