On the Chronology

Trivia

  • Unlike the Showa Riders, Kuuga was filmed in 16:9, the ratio for widescreen.
  • Kuuga is the only series featuring a single Rider in the Heisei era.
  • Kuuga aired on Super Hero Time alongside with Super Sentai. This tradition is followed by all Heisei Riders after Kuuga.
  • Toei producer, Shirakura Shinichiro, mentioned that Toei originally planned not to make sequels after the conclusion of Kuuga. They wanted to stop airing the Kamen Rider franchise on TV. However, Kuuga received positive feedbacks from the audiences while airing on TV and the producers changed their minds. A sequel was eventually made, thus starting the trend of Heisei Riders. Shirakura mentioned this discussion when he was interviewed about the Kamen Rider Taisen movie. [1]

Actor Trivia

  • Odagiri Joe himself spoke negatively about his overall experience in playing Godai Yuusuke/Kuuga, mainly claiming he never wanted to be involved with tokusatsu. Throughout filming the Kuuga episodes, he couldn't tolerate any longer in playing the titular role and had consideration of resigning from being an actor. Toei producer, Takadera Shigenori, managed to convince him that finishing Kuuga is the only way to become a famous actor. Odagiri reluctantly changed his mind and stayed on until Kuuga finally concluded. [2] [3]
