February 15, 1991
- February 14, 1992 (51 episodes)Plot
In the year 199X, Earth Defense Sky Force orbits the planet. They survey the Earth 24 hours a day to maintain world peace. When problems arise they send in agents to help out. SF-W6 (Tendo Ryu) and SF-W3 (Aoi Rie) are two such agents. Upon completing a mission they are promoted to J-project status. Aboard the ship, The Chief explains that when hit with Birdronic waves, they will turn into Choujin Sentai (Birdman squad). Immediately after Tendou Ryu's conversion into a Jetman, the enemy Vyram attack. Radiguet, leader of the Vyram, announces that they have conquered other detentions and now plan to conquer the 3rd dimension. During this attack, Ryu loses his girlfriend Rie through a hole in the ship. The Birdronic wave machine shatters and the remaining 4 waves are sent down to Earth at random. After the attack Ryu and The Chief search the Earth to find the remaining members of the group.

Trivia
- Jetman is inspired from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman which was the inspiration of Sentai. Gatchaman has its members representing a bird which Jetman does similarly. The birds Jetman represents are almost identical to the ones Gatchaman represents except for the hawk which Gatchaman uses the eagle instead.
- The team name was originally 超人戦隊バードマン Choujin Sentai Birdman (Super Human Sentai Birdman) but at some point during production was changed to 鳥人戦隊ジェットマン Choujin Sentai Jetman (Birdman Sentai Jetman). [1]
- The "Chou" (超) in the former means "Super" while the "Chou" (鳥) in the latter means "Bird".
- Jetman was originally planned to be the last in the Super Sentai series. [2]
- Jetman's story went beyond the final episode. It had three novels written by Inoue Toshiki from 1992-1995 which are rather adult and removes any mention of giant mecha. It had a manga series in 1996 written by Fujii Akiko.
- In the King Of Fighters series, when characters Ralf and Clark (the two soldiers from the Ikari Warriors games) fight against each other they usually do the "Cross Changer" pose as a reference to Jetman. Another Jetman reference is found in the KOF 98 gallery for the Neo Geo CD version of the game, where there's a picture of Leona Heidern saving Ralf and Clark dressed as Commander Odagiri Aya.
