- In mythology, Argos or Argus Panoptes, was a primordial giant who had 100 eyes. It was said that he had so many eyes, only a few could sleep at one time. Hera had him in charge of guarding a cow who was actually a transformed Io, one of Zeus' mistresses. Zeus had Hermes put Argos to sleep with spoken charms, then slew him with a rock. [1]
