ZyuRanger Mythical References

From TV-Nihon

A list of mythical references in ZyuRanger.

Arabian References

  • Lamp Fairy Gin might be a reference to the tale of Aladdin (episode 11). Coincidentally, the original airing of ZyuRanger started the same year than the release of the Disney's animated movie Aladdin.

Greek References

  • Bandora might be a reference to the myth of Pandora's Box. In the original story, Pandora's curiosity gets the better of her, and she opens a door that unleashes all of the suffering into the world. In ZyuRanger, astronauts find the container which has Bandora sealed away. They open it, and unleash her evil upon the world.
  • A pig-like monster, Dora Circe, is named after Circe, a sorceress that transformed Ulysses' companions in pigs.
  • The mecha piloted by Bandora's son Kai, Dora Talos, is named after Talos, a bronze giant from the Greek Mythology.
  • A shape-shifting white baboon/gorilla/ape monster, PriGorilla, is inspired by the monkeys and the apes that imitate humans as mentioned by a sinner in Canto XXI of "Inferno" in The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
  • A fire-breathing iguana/salamander monster, Galamander, is inspired by the salamander, a mythical creature said to be born out of the flames.
