Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger is the 35th anniversary of Toei's Super Sentai series. To celebrate it, Toei created a year-long series dedicated to looking back upon the previous 34 years of Super Sentai history.

This is a list of references to previous Sentai series.

The list for this was generated from this thread on the forums

1:

- The Gokai Galleon crew visits Snack Safari, which was also in Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan, serving as a front for Sun Vulcan's headquarters.

2:

- When the Gokaiger search for someone dressed in black, they see nearly everyone around them dressed in black. One of which is a Kuroko from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger sweeping the ground (behind a couple of nuns). - Navi's catchphrase, "What to do? What to do? What would you do if it were you?" is taken from the lyrics of the Denshi Sentai Denjiman ending theme "Denjiman ni Makasero". - Just before the boy is about to get kicked off the building after losing to the Action Commander, he clutches his stomach, and this scene is shot the same way as Juuzou's scene is shot in Shinkenger Act 26, a minute before Takeru gets cut so as to kill him, when they cross swords.

3:

- The episode title, Transforming Courage into Magic ~Maagi Magi Go Gokai~, follows the format of Mahou Sentai Magiranger episode titles which include a spell in them. - The clothes of Kai are the same as in the final episode of Mahou Sentai Magiranger. - Kai is helped by Flagel in order to be able to put the two Gokaiger through a series of tests. Flagel is the Heavenly Saint from which Kai as MagiRed draws his power.

4:

- As Joe and Ahim leave a shopping center, the center's signboard shows nine stores; all of which are Super Sentai references:

 • Upper center block: Kyouryuu-Ya/Dino House (Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger)
 • Upper right block: SCRTC (Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger)
 • Middle left block: Ikkan Kenjou Kin no Sushi/Ikkan Kenjou Gold Sushi (Samurai Sentai Shinkenger)
 • Middle center block: Tomorrow Research (Mirai Sentai Timeranger)
 • Middle right block: Wagashiya Imochou/Japanese Confectionery Imochou (Gekisou Sentai Carranger)
 • Lower left block: Shinobi Crepe (Ninja Sentai Kakuranger)
 • Lower center block: Game Riribabita (Denji Sentai Megaranger)

6:

- When Komaki flashes her father's black credit card, it reads "CJX" - an abbreviation of "Cyclone Joker Xtreme" from Kamen Rider W. The card's bottom right logo references Cyclone Joker's green and black colors. On the left of the card is a Dopant Gaia Memory port. The card also says "Member since 2009", which is the year Kamen Rider W aired.

The ball he took the liberty to guard after they seal the big bad (Long) in the ball in the last Geki episode. - Jan said "zunzun" at the end. He said the same thing in the last Gekiranger episode, meaning passing down Jyuken from teacher to student. In this episode, it was a reference to teaching Don and Ahim.

The common point for all 3 is that they are all the anti-hero type, a 6th ranger, and they all end up dead in their respective series. All three are also dinosaur related. Abaranger and Zyuranger are dinosaur themed. ("That's right!"), but pronounces it as "Shoyu koto!" while holding a bottle of soy sauce. Shoyu is the Japanese word for soy sauce.

Kakugoshiro!", which is from the lyrics of the Hurricaneger opening theme. - Fuuraimaru uses the same combination style of Gourai Senpuujin when combining with Gokai-Ou. The view of the sky is also the last thing he saw on that episode. - The Golden Gate bar in this episode is named after the same bar that was featured in Choujin Sentai Jetman. - Gai Ikari sings the Jetman theme while he, Captain Marvelous and Ahim are out looking for the Jetmen. - A bottle of Macallan whiskey, which was Gai Yuki's signature drink, sits on his tombstone. Other mementos on his tombstone are references to his teammates: the "Ako-chan" ramen cup (Ako Hayasaka/Blue Swallow), the two flower bouquets (red for Ryu Tendo/Red Hawk and white for Kaori Rokumeikan/White Swan) and the basket of vegetables (Raita Ooishi/Yellow Owl). He is also voiced by Nakata Joji, who played Great Professor Bias. - Zaien saying "Defeat is not in my vocabulary!" is also a reference to a line Bias quipped during episode 30 of Liveman. - During the Treasure Navigation, Navi says, "Hop, Step, Love Jump", which is the title of Colon's song on the Choujuu Sentai Liveman soundtrack. - Jou's entrance is a remake of a scene from episode 18 of Liveman, where he raced to save a runaway stroller. - The skateboard in Jou's office at the restored Academia has stickers that say "Land Lion" (Yellow Lion's mecha), "Skateboard Attack" (Yellow Lion's Jet Skateboard attack name) and "Colon" (which features her profile in silhouette). 48:

49:

- When Takayuki Hiba, Sho Hayate, Dai, Akira and Remi Hoshikawa speak to the Gokaiger, some of them make references to the lyrics to their respective shows' opening themes. - The Greatest Treasure in the Universe looks and functions like the Triforce of The Legend of Zelda game series. This may be a cross-promotion between Toei and Nintendo, as the Gokaiger-oriented games Super Sentai Battle: Ranger Cross and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Gathered Transformation! 35 Sentai! are exclusive to the Wii and DS, respectively. - The Gokai Change into Vul Eagle, Change Gryphon, Green Flash, Blue Mask and Five Yellow is in the order of the shows' chronological releases.

50:

- Professor Shuichirou Amachi (Goseiger) and Yuka Yamazaki (Magiranger) are helping with the rescue in the building rubble. The Professor says "As long as you don't give up, it'll surely work out!" - which is what GoseiRed used to say in Goseiger. Yamazaki says "You all used the magic called "courage"" - which is a reference to Magiranger receiving their magical powers from having courage. - Yuka Yamazaki gives a Magi Red doll, which is a memento of Kai Ozu from Mahou Sentai Magiranger. - Making return appearances are the mother and her children from episode 23 and the boy from episode 2. - In their final encounter with Dyrandoh, the five main Gokaiger paraphrase their opening speech from episode 1, with "Super Sentai" replacing "pirates" in Captain Marvelous' line.

- At the Snack New Safari, Captain Marvelous finishes five plates of curry rice, a loose reference to Daita Ooiwa/Ki Ranger eating four bowls of curry rice in episode 1 of Himitsu Sentai Goranger. - The teachers and school children from episode 1 make a return appearance. The Gokaiger paraphrase what they said to them in the end of episode 1.

199 Heroes movie:

- The Gokaiger use the GoRanger's Grand Power, the Gokai Hurricane Cassiopeia. This is based on the attack the GoRanger used against the Black Cross King in the final episode, the Hurricane Cassiopeia. The first Pink Double Attack by Gosei Pink was with Shinken Pink in Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs. Shinkenger: Epic on Ginmaku. - When Red One and Red Turbo are talking to the Goseiger and the Gokaiger, they are referencing lines from the opening themes of their respective shows.

Flying ghost ship movie:

- The battle between the Gokaiger and Baseball Mask is an exact remake of episode 53 of Himitsu Sentai Goranger, with the exception of the appearance of G3 Princess.

Gokaiger vs. Gavan movie:

- Daigoro Oume's anpan business is called "Denjipan", an homage to Denshi Sentai Denjiman and his love for anpan. - Gai refers to Shiro Akebono's "smell of the savanna", a reference to Shiro Akebono having been trained in Kenya. - The Henshin scene at the very end, where Gavan, Battle Kenya and DenjiBlue transform, is a tribute to the very final scene of the Uchuu Keiji Trilogy, where Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider also transform after the request of a voice coming from the sky. - The way Mons Drake, Kinggon, and Robogog react and appear is the same as their souls do in Goseiger episode 49. That might suggest that their souls were able to manifest in Makku Space. - When Joe Gokai changes into DenjiBlue, he is using the DenjiPunch for boxing attacks. Gai joins him by Gokai changing into Go-On Gold, also using boxing attacks. This is a reference to Hiroto who always trained in boxing, but in battle used his Rocket Dagger instead. - In the flashback scene where Retsu Ichijouji rescues young Captain Marvelous, his dialogue references the lyrics of the Uchuu Keiji Gavan opening theme - most notably: "Otoko nandarou?" ("Are you a man?") "Abayo namida," ("Farewell, tears.") and "Yoroshiku yuuki." ("Welcome, courage.").

Ending Theme Sequence 1 (Goranger to Liveman):

- The line for Himitsu Sentai Goranger is part of that team's roll call ("Gonin sorotte Goranger," or, "When five are assembled, they're Goranger") - Denji Dog IC appears when Denshi Sentai Denjiman is mentioned. - The line for Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan is the title of that show's second ending theme ("Ichi tasu ni tasu Sun Vulcan" or "One plus two plus Sun Vulcan"). - The line for Choujuu Sentai Liveman references the show's opening line "Tomo yo, kimitachi wa naze?" ("Friends, why?"). A dolphin kissing Joe is a reference to the show's opening sequence where the Liveman play with dolphins at an aquarium.
