Kamen Rider References

  • 04:54 Erika says that Pierre has links to "global terror organizations", a reference to Shocker from Kamen Rider, which is a terror organization that operates around the globe.
  • 08:40 Yabe says "I don't care whether it's the Yama or Doctor Death." Doctor Death is a Shocker commander.
  • 18:49 There is a worn-out logo that looks like a Shocker combatant.
  • 19:04 The boss of Pierre's underlings here is dressed as Doctor Death, and the underlings as Shocker combatants, from Kamen Rider.
  • 25:50 "Shotsuka" is a pun on "Shocker". Shokkaa = ショッカー and Shotsukaa = ショツカー. ッ = elongating character, but when it becomes ツ, it's "tsu". Even the logo has a Shocker combatant face on it.
  • 26:06 Another reference of Shotsuka/Shocker being "active around the world".
  • 26:43 The scientist does a Shocker salute.
  • 28:45 A sign says "(Shocker) combatants on patrol" and that the security chief is Colonel Zol, a Shocker commander.
  • 28:58 The scientists in the building all use the Shocker salute.

Trick References

  • 00:57 This time, Mirai is reading about the "Immortal Elderly Case", which is Episode 5 and 6 of TRICK -Troisième partie-.
  • 25:42 James says "Oh my god!" when Akiba lifts Yabe's toupee. The usual pun of kami = hair/god.
  • 47:16 Hanae was in Keibuho Yabe Kenzou Season 1.

Other References

  • 00:48 The CD is labeled "P", and Nokiwa says "P-chan". P-chan is a gravure and AV idol.
  • 02:03 Yabe mishears "Brice virus" as "Bruce Willis".
  • 05:12 Since Zenigata Erika is from Interpol, she is a reference to Inspector Zenigata from Lupin III.
  • 10:06 Yabe and Erika eat at a restaurant called Cool Cinq. Cinq is French for "five". This is a reference to Hiroshi Uchiyamada and Cool Five, a pop group.
  • 11:04 The restaurant owner looks like Kobayashi Masaki of Hiroshi Uchiyamada and Cool Five.
  • 11:07 Erika says that the owner's name is Anada Hitori, and Yabe replies with "anata hitori?" "Anata Hitori" are the first words from the oldies song Nagasaki wa Kyou mo Ame datta.
  • 12:06 Anada Hitori is pointing at Kobayashi Masaki on a box on the floor. The box is labeled "Kyou mo Ame datta".
  • 14:18 The barbershop name is Kobayashi.
  • 17:12 Yabe exclaims that he sees André the Giant, but then says it was the Skytree.
  • 17:18 Yabe says "Molar switch, turn on! Accelerator module!" which is a reference to the Cyborg 009 manga series. Cyborg 009 has a switch in his molar which activates his accelerator module.
  • 26:28 Yabe says that Erika is putting up a "great performance". Then he says that he means an actress from Takarazuka. Erika's actress, Otozuki Kei, is a former member of Takarazuka. He is still referring to her.
  • 32:20 Yabe says "otsumu no kami-sama no iu toori" (as the intelligent god wills) in place of "eeny meeny miny moe". Kami-sama no Iu Toori (As God Wills) is a manga series.
  • 35:09 Yabe says "Yukigumi no Onzoushi" (Prince of Yukigumi), referring to Erika's actress, who played male roles in the Yukigumi Troupe of Takarazuka Revue. Takarazuka Revue is an all-female troupe which uses females for both male and female roles.
  • 35:46 Pierre's newest virus is called Die Hard.
  • 46:14 Yabe says "atari maeda no cracker". This is a reference to the Atari Maeda no Cracker CM by Maeda Confectionary. The CM title is a pun on "atarimaeda" which means "of course".
  • 48:13 Akiba references Three Count, the name of a 2009 wrestling movie.

Trivia

  • 04:37 There is a framed calligraphy in the conference room that says "Global Standards". Coincidentally, the commissioner says that they "will not deal with criminals".
  • 08:33 The commissioner says that "even the Yama would suit him well as a partner".
  • 09:56 "If you lie, Lord Enma will pull out your tongue" (嘘をつけばと閻魔様に舌を抜かれる Uso o tsukeba to enmasama ni shita o nukareru) is a superstition in Japan often told to scare children into telling the truth.[1]
  • 10:31 Erika says that she hopes that her meal with Yabe will not become the Last Supper.
  • 10:46 Yabe brags that he used to have bigger escargots at a top-class French restaurant. Erika asks if he meant at Troisgros (Torowaguro), and Yabe says "Toromaguro" (fatty cut tuna).

  • 33:57 There is a keyboard labeled "Electromagnetic Rock 'n' Roll", with the "'n' Roll" crossed out. Since "L" and "R" are interchangable in Japanese, it becomes "Electromagnetic Lock".
  • 46:53 A new framed calligraphy on the wall says "Frame Continuation", which could be a reference to the two scene cuts of the "9th Interrogation Room" sign.
  • 47:24 Akiba calls Nokiwa a zashiki-warashi because she appeared suddenly and gave them a shock.
  • 48:10 Yabe says that he will solve the next case "faster than Makabe Togi's King Kong Knee. Makabe Togi is a Japanese pro wrestler, and King Kong Knee Drop is one of his finishing moves.
