Trivia

  • Magi refers to herself using boku, which is a boyish way of saying "I".
    • Magi also shows signs of infidelity with her interest in Rekka.
    • It's implied that Higari has saved/restored Magi's life before, since Higari says "This is the last time." when saving Magi's life before the final battle.
    • When Rekka first saves Magi, Rekka tells Magi to focus on living as long as she can, not knowing that Magi will die soon.
  • Aside from Shiguto and Kengi, the cast of this toku movie is all women. Which is fairly rare.
  • The first scene filmed was the silly one where Rekka rolls out of a window. The last one involved the last actor to appear, Tsuda Kanji as Kengi, to do his scene with Rekka.

References to Red Requiem

  • At the beginning, Rekka plays a Requiem for Heroic Spirits. The same song used to defeat Karma at the end of Red Requiem. Magi asks Rekka what the name of the song is, but Rekka doesn't answer. The notes for Requiem are in the booklet that comes with Tougen.
  • Shiguto and Kengi are back from the Red Requiem movie, where Rekka first appears.
    • When Kengi appears, he touches the side of Rekka's cheek the way he does in Red Requiem.
  • Shiguto brings out a giant brush. This brush formerly belonged to his teacher Priest Akaza, from Red Requiem.

References to other Garo Series

  • This is Rin's first appearance since the Beast of the White Night special (She is mentioned, but doesn't appear in Makai Senki). Jabi mentions Rin's training (It's implied that Jabi teaches Rin to be a priest at the end of White Night)
  • Magi fights with a brush that turns into tonfas.
    • When Magi starts fighting two-handed, Rekka notes it and says that she has a friend who specializes in that. This is a reference to Makai Knight Zero, who fights using two swords.
  • When Jabi fights Agi, Jabi flicks her left earring and performs a rock attack, saying that she has a friend who specializes in that attack. Not sure who this is a reference to though.
  • On the last day of filming, the actors for Kouga (Konishi Ryousei), Kaoru (Hijii Mika), and Shion (Eguchi Hiromi) appeared to show their support.
  • At the end, they hint that there is some kind of competition going on between Makai Knights, which is a reference to events that happen in Soukoku no Maryuu.
Spoiler warning: Significant plot details about Soukoku no Maryuu follow.

In the opening scene at the training grounds, there is a shot of the wooden training scarecrow that is the same type as Kakashi.
