Story

  • The team learn that Tsuu Shogun is a dentist.
  • Malushina is controled by Tsuu Shogun.
  • Ittasha Robo is destroyed and replaced with Ittasha Boy.

Villain

Mecha Gigan Coelacanthcans

メカジャイガン・シーラカンスカンス Voiced by

Based on Bioman's enemy, Gear. Their name formatting usually ends in -cans カンス.

Based on the Coelacanth fish (Apparently pronounced seelacanth シーラカンス).

The mecha design bears a strong resemblance to Buchi Mecha, which is a term used to describe mecha designed by Izubuchi Yutaka. This designer was famous for breathing a new life into Sentai (Dynaman, Bioman, Changeman, and anime).

Finisher move is Petrification Bomber (Kasekika Bomber 化石化ボンバー).

Trivia

  • We learn Tsuu Shogun's full name. And he's a dentist apparently (explains his expertise with drilling and molding things). This also explains why Maihama refers to him as sensei. Tsuu Shogun's actual name is Ushirozawa Tsuguo 後沢次男. Tsuguo means "second son" and leads perfectly into the Tsuu in Tsuu Shogun.
  • Net lingo: wktk and ktkr
    • wktk (Wakuteka ワクテカ) - Means "to anticipate and look forward to something".
    • ktkr (Kitakore キタコレ) - Means "for one's hopes to come true".
      • Luna mispronounces it "k t k r" but Nobuo corrects her.
  • Luna's athlete number is 1043267 which is basically a conversion of Iwashimizu Luna イワシミズルナ.

Sentai References

  • A Zoruru Abeoma soldier from Abaranger pops up with a sign for the AkibaRangers to follow.
  • Shinkenger
    • Shinkenger 22.5 大興奮水着美少女. In Shinkenger the episodes are called acts and the title is written in all kanji. The kanji say "The really exciting beauty in a swimsuit", but Nobuo reads out "The nosebleed beauty in a swimsuit" はなぢものみずぎびしょうじょ since the actual title isn't fully represented by the kanji
    • In the background one can see Kuroko, the men in black that are prevalent in Shinkenger.
  • Go-Onger
    • GP33 1/2 金緑ケッコン. Go-Onger titles are typically written with two kanji and the rest in katakana. Episodes are called GP (Grand Prix).
    • When characters are coupled, the character's name who is on the left is typically the seme. In this case, Gold is the seme, Green is the uke.
  • Bioman
    • 46.5 南の島を駆け抜けろ!Most of the Bioman titles end in an excalamation mark or a question mark.
    • Apparently this episode is about the Honolulu Marathon. In reality, the Honolulu Marathon happened before the airdate of episode 46 (Dec. 15).
    • When Coelacanthcans makes his appearance, Bioman music plays. He's based on Bioman monsters and uses their naming format.
    • Luna says it's no fair to deploy a giant robo without a kaijin, but apparently this practice happened a lot in Bioman.
    • Tsundere Sword Mousou Ryuushi Giri (Delusion Particle Slash ツンデレソード・妄想粒子斬り) is based on BioRobo's Super Maser Bio Ryuushi Giri (Bio Particle Slash スーパーメーザー・バイオ粒子斬り).
    • There is a Bio Hunter Silva poster in the alley that writes "Destroy!" in hiragana, katakana and kanji respectively.
    • Tsuu Shougun did Bio Hunter Silva's pose of "Destroy! Destroy! Destroy!" when he ordered Malshiina to destroy the AkibaRangers
  • MagiRanger
    • Mentioned the spell used to create Wizard in reference to brainwashed Malshiina.呪縛転生
    • Uu Ugaro, Uu Uzaara (ウー・ウガロ, ウー・ウザーラ). Uu meant erase, Ugaro meant fortify, and Uzaara meant transform. However, neither of these spells were used in MagiRanger, they're new to this show.
  • Tropes
    • Bathing suit episode. Around July or August they tend to have an episode with the heroes in bathing suits.
    • Wedding episode during Autumn.
    • Christmas battle. Apparently a lot of mecha debut before Christmas to encourage buying the toy as a present.
  • The evil treacherous trio. They convert RyuuRanger, HurricaneRed, and TyrannoRanger into Long, Yaiba, and Vancuria (Respectively kung-fu, ninja, and magic themes.)
  • DaiRanger
    • Nobuo says they'll get crushed like Zaidos. In one episode, Zaidos is crushed flat by the DaiRanger's mecha.
  • Itasshaa Boy イタッシャーボーイ. Nobuo explains that a lot of second or third robos have -boy at the end of their name to make them diminutive to the main robo.
  • First season call backs
    • AkibaRod and AkibaPylon (アキバロッドとアキバパイロン) Actually both are just construction material. A reference to season one.
    • Itasshaa Boy drives by an empty soda can in its entrance. The can was the finishing move in the giant mecha battle in season one.
    • Hakase gets another scorpion mark on her neck. A reference to Akiba season 1?

Cosplay in AkibaRangers

  • Kokokozu wears a gray jacket with a scarf. Apparently it's one of the uniforms from Changeman.
  • Yuuko is wearing a delinquent's school uniform, sporting a pompadour and a headband. When she talks, she sometimes breaks out in chants like an Ouendan member.
