Plot
The Alchemy Stars, a group of young geniuses, develop the CRISIS, a prophetic supercomputer, which predicts that the world will be destroyed by an entity which brings radical destruction (根源的破滅招来体). To protect the Earth, the Geocentric Universal Alliance against the Radical Destruction (G.U.A.R.D.) is set up secretly, so as to avoid worldwide panic. Specialized in combat is the eXpanded Interceptive Guardians (XIG), a division of G.U.A.R.D., using weapons and machineries developed by the Alchemy Stars.
True enough to the prophecy, a strange luminous phenomenon appears in the skies of Tokyo, which later turns out to be a gigantic monster, destroying a large area of the city. XIG dispatch Team Lightning, a team of 3 elite fighter pilots with state-of-the-art fighter planes, to attempt to destroy the monster and protect the city. However, the planes are eventually overpowered by the monster.
Takayama Gamu, a member of the Alchemy Stars, while drowned in disappointment that all their research put into the technologies were in vain, suddenly finds himself sucked into a dimension where he sees a giant which he calls "Ultraman". After begging for help to save the Earth, Gamu finds himself merged and transformed into the giant, Ultraman Gaia.
