Kaiju

The S-Class Species given to the Giant Unidentified Life Forms that continue to show up in Japan. The kanji for kaiju is "禍威獣" (threatening beasts of calamity). This is a pun on the normal kanji for kaiju which is "怪獣" which means "strange beast" usually.

SSSP

Stands for S-Class Species Suppression Protocol.

In Japanese they're the Science Special Investigations Squad (Kagaku Tokusou Tai 科学特捜隊）or Katokutai (科特隊) for short.
