Trivia

  • This episode appears to have the same name as the first series DVD bonus episode, Smile. However, the kanji are different. This episode title is Bishou (微笑), whereas the Garo bonus episode was Egao (笑顔). Both mean "smile" though.
  • When Alice reveals her true nature to Rei, she steps on a flower. Up to this point, people stepping on flowers had represented other people around Alice oppressing her.
  • Alice's turn was foreshadowed in her wardrobe. Up till episode 8, she plays the damsel to be saved by Rei. She wears pure white clothing in those episodes. After she steals the dragon egg, she wears black on top of her white clothing.
  • Some of her phrasing here echoes her past lines in previous episodes. Such as being unhappy living unless she can see what she wants to see. In this episode, she explains that what she wants to see is a land of flowers after all humans have been burned away by dragon fire.
  • Alice's dream of a land of flowers and sweet fruits could be drawing images of Eden from Christian mythology. Given Edel's name and Zoe meaning "Eve" in the ending song, this would make sense.
  • There was an earthquake notice near the end of this episode.
  • Zero's armor was at 34.6 seconds when it's last seen onscreen.
