Trivia

Robo's Max Robo currency
  • When Yocchan and Maki arrive at the Hayashi household, they bring melons which are expensive in Japan. They're also considered to be signs of wealth.

Episode motifs:

  • Happiness through money
    • The episode revisits similar themes as Voice 03.
    • Niko's family all seem to develop resentment towards her when she turns down Maki's offer, although they had assured her they weren't accepting the offer. It was only after the blackout that this was resolved.
    • Niko's father wishes for world peace, but when he is presented with so much money, it becomes apparent that riches would make him happier than peace.
    • Maki and especially Yocchan think that all they have to do is keep offering more and more money to Niko's family to get them to accept the offer. This is probably tied to the fact that the closest they know to a family is each other.
    • Robo points out that Keroyama could have stayed in the city and kept his robots if he had money.
    • Koun, although already a trillionaire, eagerly awaits his second life with its promise of increasing his wealth a thousandfold. Although it has not given him happiness in this life, he continues to hold onto the idea that money = happiness.
    • Niko seems to be the only one who does not tie happiness to money. She understands its necessity after Voice 03, but seems uncomfortable holding onto excessive amounts of cash. In Voice 03, she donated the bulk of the money to charity. Here, she tells Koun that his ineritance is "a bother".

Series motifs:

  • Maki's summoning methods. Jizoudou comes to Niko's family with a bag of 100 million yen and the offer to adopt her. The final two episodes sees a switch from Niko coming to them, to them coming to her.
  • Kazumi-chan's part-time jobs. When Yocchan finds her, she is locked in some kind of warehouse and is wearing a similar outfit to what Tsukiko wore in Voice 03 when she was picking up garbage.
  • Robo falsely accused. Koun suggests that Robo's relationship with Niko is inappropriate. With all the things Robo has been accused of, Kazumi has been the only other person to mention the oddity of their relationship.
  • Yocchan's professional song. Yocchan is singing it just before finding Kazumi-chan.
Moemon

Names

  • Sachiko means "happy child". Niko says that will be the name of her future child. It was also the name of her late dog.
  • Shinoda Koun is apparently 45 years old. His name "koun" is one letter away from being "kouun/fortune".
  • Koun is the mangaka for Moemon. The name Moemon is a combination of moe (cuteness) and monster. In some scenes of the manga, the kanji for "moe" can be seen. Which in turn might be a parody of Pokemon or even Doraemon.

Continuity

  • When staying at Robo's house, Shinoda picks up a piece of bread crust in a bowl. Robo was shown to pick these crusts up when has no money since they're cheap/free in Voice 03.
    • In the flashback scene where the couple are building the mountain of dirt, a bag of bread crusts can be seen next to them. So when they were poor, they ate like Robo too.
  • Robo again has no money for food because he bought robots. At least this time he didn't have to borrow money from Niko like in Voice 01.
  • Niko's mother says the family is in debt because Niko's father became the bondsman for his friend in Voice 06.
    • Niko's family have noodles with curry for dinner. Another cheap dish associated with lower income families (like having Campbell soup and instant ramen for dinner in America).
  • Yocchan keeps his secret stash in the picture he took of himself in front of Mt. Fuji from Voice 02.

Mecha References

  • Keroyama's favorite robot is Gunbuster, which Robo allows him to keep.

Uses of Niko's Power

  • Niko hears something being dragged in the aquarium.

Notable Quotes

  • Robo - "Am I the only one that feels lonely in the light?"
Niko - "Why do you feel lonely in the light?"
Robo - "Because it feels like it's over. In the theaters, after it's over, it becomes lit-up, right? It's like, 'okay, playtime is over.'"

Robo's Max phrases:

  • "Max Punch!"
  • "Max Check!"

Comparisons to the Manga

  • In the manga Voice 2: A Woman Like the Ocean, the story is about a man named Yoshiko who works at the aquarium while having an affair with a woman. In the manga, Yoshiko is the one holding the electronics, threatening the girl to marry him or the fish will die.
  • Yoshiko may be a mistranslation of Sachiko, since both share the same kanji.

DVD Extra Footage

  • No changes to actual episode.
  • The next episode preview is completely different.
  • Another contest is omitted from the dvd version. This time cds of the drama's OST and the theme song are being given away.
